About the Photographer
I come from a very creative family. I grew up surrounded by photography. My uncle is an avid photographer
who has passed on much of what he has learned. Living in Savannah is especially inspiring. The combination of history,
architecture and nature is fascinating for me. I find myself revisiting many of my favorite haunts year after year and
experiencing the changes through my lens.
I have always sketched, but photography did not become a creative outlet
for me until I was a senior at St. Vincent's Academy. I gave up plans to major in computer science at the University of Georgia to go to the
Savannah College of Art & Design where I earned a B.F.A. in Photography.
I began shooting fashion for print publications in the southern market including Fine's Department store, an old Savannah icon
that has since closed it's doors. But I still wanted to learn more, so I returned to SCAD
to earn my M.F.A. in
Photography.
In 1988, I joined the staff of the Savannah Morning News/Evening Press
where I learned daily as a staff photographer shooting everything from
sports to mug shots. Photojournalism allowed me to hone a variety of skills, shoot a variety of mediums and explore not only my creative side, but trained
me to be meticulous and detail oriented. As such, my portfolio is immense and illustrates a wide range of subjects.
I enjoy passing along my love of photography and teach continuing education classes to
adults and teenagers. I serve as a part-time Media Specialist at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School. I also design websites for FGS Computer Services. I continue to freelance both for businesses and individuals
shooting and/or writing about products, people, places and events.
Today, I combine old and new. I still shoot film- Polaroid, Scala, Fujichrome. I enjoy combining portraiture with historical techniques and pinhole photography with digital imaging.
The end results are — Distinctive, Personal & Memorable.
